The aim of the fun day was to spread awareness of MDVS and to raise funds on their behalf. Helping with the fund raising was Julie Jones, head of business development at the Liverpool based law firm Paul Crowley & Co.

The MDVS fun day was organised by Jacky and Isla from the domestic violence abuse centre, who are based in Liverpool’s China Town district. Julie has supported and worked with Jacky and Isla on a number of MDVS charitable events throughout the city.

Merseyside Domestic Violence Services

MDVS is a voluntary charitable organisation which was established in 2003.

The staff there provide much needed valuable help and support, to women, children, young people and families whose lives have been affected in some way, by issues related to domestic violence and also cultural and honour based crime.

The staff volunteers at the centre provide a range of educational programs, including domestic violence and sexual health awareness. To encourage participation, inclusion, and integration, outings and leisure activities are also organised for the women, children, families and young people.

Paul Crowley & Co fund raising

To support the fund raising Paul Crowley & Co provided a variety of prizes for the raffle including goody bags and store gift vouchers.

The fund raising proved a huge success with the law firm selling 300 raffle tickets on the day. Other local businesses also kindly donated gifts for the raffle.

The Fun Day event was well attended with free entertainment and attractions throughout the day for the adults and children. The children enjoyed the donkey rides, bouncy castles and face painting, proving popular amongst the crowd were a young dance troupe from MD Productions who took to the stage mid afternoon, providing visual entertainment and presenting their message through music and dance that abuse should not be tolerated and that domestic violence must stop.

Domestic abuse – there is help

It is important that awareness of domestic abuse is raised in this country and that the message is getting across to the victims who are suffering, there is help out there, organisations like MDVS can be contacted and legal advice is available through Paul Crowley & Co solicitors.

In the United Kingdom alone, every minute an incident of domestic violence is reported to the police, in the time it takes to read this item, there’s a probability that at least one incident will have taken place, by the end of the week, two women will have been murdered by a current or ex-partner.
