Same Sex Relationships

The Civil Partnership Act became part of the legislation of England and Wales in December 2005 and the Act offers same sex partners the same remedies in terms of finance and issues concerning children to that of married couples.

A civil partnership is defined as:

  • A relationship between two people of the same sex formed upon registration of a civil partnership where registration takes place in the UK or outside the UK under an order in Council; or
  • By virtue of having registered an overseas relationship

A partnership will end on the first to occur of the following events:

  • Death
  • Dissolution; or
  • Annulment.

As Civil Partnerships are a fairly recent innovation this seemingly complex area of law is in its infancy. Paul Crowley & Co specialist Family Law Solicitors are able to provide expert advice in relation to any aspect of Civil Partnership Law and the rights of either party.
